Liters to US Gallons Converter
A rental car's fuel tank is listed in liters, but you are used to US gallons. A 50-liter tank holds approximately 13.209 US gallons. Use the calculator to compare volumes, keeping in mind that a US gallon and a UK imperial gallon are different sizes.
50 L = 13.208603 US gal
US liquid gallons only. Imperial gallons are larger; this page does not convert MPG or L/100 km.
Conversion formula
US gallons = liters ÷ 3.785411784
Results are rounded to six decimal places; the reference table is rounded to three.

Understand fuel volume before comparing prices
One US liquid gallon equals exactly 3.785411784 liters. An imperial gallon equals 4.54609 liters. This page always uses US liquid gallons, so it should not be used as an imperial-gallon calculator. Check the unit in a vehicle manual or rental listing, particularly if the source is British or refers to imperial measurements.
At a fuel pump priced per liter, multiplying the local per-liter price by 3.785411784 gives a price per US gallon in the same currency. You still need a currency conversion before comparing that figure with a price at home. Converting the tank's volume alone does not convert fuel cost, driving range, or fuel economy.
For rough planning, four liters is a little more than one US gallon. Use the exact conversion when estimating a refill budget or comparing tank capacities. A tank's stated capacity is not necessarily the amount you will buy on a particular stop: the fuel already in the tank and the rental company's return policy matter too. Check the fuel type as well as the volume before filling up.
